STD Testing in Singapore

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain a public health concern in Singapore, with recent years showing a steady number of reported cases. Common infections are listed in the chart below. Increased awareness and testing initiatives have highlighted the importance of early detection and treatment to prevent complications and reduce transmission.

 WHO SHOULD GET TESTED?

The MOH & HPB in Singapore advises regular STD testing for all sexually active individuals, especially those with multiple partners, inconsistent protection use, or new relationships. Some groups, like pregnant women, sexually active teens, and men who have sex with men, may require more frequent testing. Regular screening ensures early detection, treatment, and infection prevention.

While some STDs can be asymptomatic, it’s important to get tested if you experience:

  • Painful urination

  • Genital discharge

  • Itching or discomfort in the genital area

  • Sores or blisters on the genitals or mouth

  • Flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and swollen glands

Many individuals with STDs don’t experience any symptoms. For instance, up to 80% of women and 50% of men with chlamydia may not display any symptoms.
